The Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County are pleased to announce the Newport Antiques Show, to be held August 8-10, 2008. Lead sponsor, William Vareika Fine Arts of Newport, presents this year’s show, which will take place at St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island.

2007 Newport Antiques Show was Great Success

In 2007, the first Newport Antiques Show was held August 10- 12, 2007 at St. George’s School in Middletown, Rhode Island. Two local organizations, the Newport Historical Society and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Newport County were the beneficiaries. Anne Hamilton of Newport and Philadelphia chaired the event, which raised over $100,000 for each charity. This year the Newport Antiques Show will again be chaired by Anne Hamilton.

Forty-one of the finest dealers from across the United States and abroad were brought to the Stephen P. Cabot and Archer Harman Ice Center at St. George’s by Diana H. Bittel, show manager. Over 2,500 individuals visited the show during the three-day run, including visitors from Boston, Connecticut, New York, and throughout the United States. William Vareika Fine Arts of Newport was the Show’s lead sponsor. The event’s Honorary Chairs were Mrs. Samuel M.V. Hamilton, Mrs. Robert H. Charles and Mrs. John R. Donnell. Additional sponsors included Sotheby’s, ABC6, Jessica Hagen Fine Art and others.

Media attention was strong for the first show. Articles ran in the New York Times, the Boston Globe and a number of local publications. Ads were placed in such periodicals as Boston Magazine and Antiques and Fine Art Magazine. Expanded media coverage is planned for this year. The Newport Antiques Show has already become one of the most acclaimed antiques shows in the United States. We invite you to become a part of our success in 2008.
